Blog Tour & Review: Heartache (Volume 1) by Danielle Allen

Roman Harper is known for being three things:

A talented artist…

A charismatic loner…

And most notably, an unintentional heartbreaker.

Even though he doesn’t mean for women to fall in love with him, Roman Harper has left a string of broken hearts in his wake.  But after a lie tore his world apart eight years ago, Roman doesn’t let anyone get too close to him. Sex is sex and love is…completely out of the question.  Using the past as motivation, Roman pours his heart out onto his canvas.  His heartache inspires some of his best work. And at twenty-eight years old, his art is finally getting the recognition that he’s always desired. But when Roman wakes up on the morning after his successful event with no recollection of who left the cryptic message on his bathroom mirror, everything changes.

Jenny's Review

I'm a huge fan of Danielle Allen's work. I can't begin to tell you how amazing the characters and stories she writes are. And Heartache is another awesome read.

Roman Harper is probably one of the most complexed character that I've read in a while. He is a man who live a solitary life. He know what he wants, especially from woman he's sexually involved with. If they start to develop any real feelings for him, he is out. No harm, no foul, at least on his end. He only have a hand-full of friends and they don't know much about his past. He keeps everyone at arms distance, not allowing anyone to get close. All of his emotions are laid out through his art. With one cryptic message that is left on his bedroom mirror, his life is turned upside down. With that one message, he now have to face his past, deal with a friend becoming more while dealing with a potential stalker.

Danielle have a way of writing characters that you become emotionally evolved with. This story is captivating and you become engrossed. It what I love most about her writing.

Heartache is a change from what I've read from Danielle previously. We are thrown into a mystery, a whounit, where we are on a thrown into a tailspin of who can it be but also we get to find out more about Roman. Who he is, what make him such a loner and why he feels the need to be alone when so many people want to be a part of his life. While reading Heartache there were times that I wanted to give Roman a big hug and there were times when I wanted to shake the ever loving crap out of his. Every pain, frustration, agony and guilt he feels, he manifest it as all his own and no one can help him move on from it. In the end, he is able to open up, learn from the past and potentially open up to love. The only thing that was a bit much was the internal dialogue of Roman. It was great to know what he was thinking, especially with his interaction with Bianca but sometimes it felt a bit overdone. All in all, it was a fantastic read
